My artwork seeks to display manifestations of the anxiety my generation encounters as we traverse through age transition. The work displays a playful imagination now corrupted by maturity and knowledge, leaving only disembodied mutations and disorganized biomorphic figures behind. With the desire to take control of this negativity I am interested in mirroring the angst we all encounter at some point in our lives, whether they be internal struggles with our own human psyche or the external constructs that weigh on our shoulders. Inspired by the reckless existence of cartoons and toys, my work thrives on the comedy of colorful forms and wacky characters. Using childhood objects as reference, the characters act as a stand in for youth. The clash that is created between innocence and the grotesque is essential to embedding the work with real emotion, dread. Materials demonstrate an investigation into my reference material: stuffed animals and cartoons.
